Cummins Falls State Park Observation Platform

Cookeville, TN

Randolph Architecture

Cummins Falls is a one-of-a-kind waterfall tucked away in an isolated gorge which was nearly impossible to see from the surrounding cliffs. After the site became a Tennessee State Park, funding became available to provide an observation platform for visitors to see this magnificent natural feature. Elrod Engineering was selected to be the structural engineering firm to make this possible. The structural design culminated in the platform having an irregular angular shape to increase visibility of the falls. Additionally, the structural steel framing utilized beams which cantilevered the platform deck far over the edge of the cliff overhanging the deep gorge below. Elrod was proud to be a part of the team that delivered this unique and functional structure for the enjoyment of park visitors.
