Bicentennial Bell Tower- Columbia, TN

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Maury County in Tennessee, local government leaders chose to mark the historical achievement by creating a monument that could be enjoyed by future generations. The design of the bicentennial monument tower was based on towers that were primary elements in the architecture of an Episcopal girls school building built in Maury County in 1837; and which was later destroyed by fire. The belfry houses a bell that was salvaged from another civil war era school building in the community. So that the monument would stand up to the test of time, the 48’-10” tall structure was constructed entirely of reinforced masonry and concrete; two materials that when properly designed, constructed, and maintained, have excellent durability.
