WCUD Landfill Risk Assessment

The project included the following: 1) characterize the site by use of existing data and information, 2) design of a landfill cap which meets at a minimum Subtitle D closure requirements for permitted solid waste landfills, 3) identify source area groundwater and design a monitoring system for plume detection and containment, 4) provide institutional controls to supplement engineering controls, 5) conduct a streamlined or limited baseline risk assessment, and 6) conduct a well survey of past and present water sources located within a one mile radius of the site.

The constituents of concern at the site included TCE, 1,1-DCE, and c-1,2-DCE.

The results of the streamlined baseline risk assessment of the site indicated that risk due to the COCs for the residential use of groundwater pathway (for the residences located along Kent Road) is between 10-5 and 10-6, which was within the acceptable range of risk according to EPA guidance.
